Second Baby Announcement

I thought I would take a moment to share with you the Facebook announcement Mark and I made for our second child.  Not only did we mention the due date, but we also did a gender reveal.

While Mark and I had a lot of fun with our first baby announcement, coming up with a second baby announcement was a little more difficult.  Especially since Andrew doesn’t quite grasp what is going on yet!

So how did we do it?

The initial photographs had Andrew sitting on the floor in our office with a whiteboard behind him.  I had written on the whiteboard the wording we planned on using for the first image, just as a placeholder.  We then snapped a lot of pictures of Andrew in different poses trying to get the right expressions on his face.

Mark edited the photographs on the computer by removing the whiteboard and putting in an off-white background.  He then added the text and the pictures of our favourite Disney girls.

Our baby announcement originally didn’t have the gender reveal in it, the text on the bottom image was the same as the text on the first image.  When we found out we were having a girl (doctor is 90% sure), we reedited the image and put the player selection in.

What I loved most about both our baby announcements is that they showed a little of our personalities as the parents.  In Andrew’s baby announcement, we incorporated Mark’s love for music and playing guitar.  Uncle Michael (Mark’s brother) said he would leave his drum kit behind when he went to the United Kingdom, so it was already decided that our first child is going to be a drummer.

The second baby announcement showed a bit more of my personality in it.  I loved playing Nintendo TV games as a child, and I still enjoy playing them from time to time through an emulator.  And since I am a programmer, the computer game reference is suitable.  Plus I love Disney.  I actually wanted Mark to use the Vanellope Von Schweetz character from the move Wreck-It-Ralph (one of my favourite Disney movies), but he didn’t in the end and he didn’t have the time to re-edit the picture.
